Walk around the village as re-enactors from the Union and Confederate camps teach and perform. Bring your business cards if you are willing to share any images with the re-enactors. Most willingly pose. They typically have a church service in the church on Sunday with the military band playing–it is very tight quarters, and not really a photo opportunity.
This is not a organized teaching event, but we can walk around in small groups and help each other with our images. It is an opportunity to socialize and have models in costume.
There is a canon battle in the afternoon in a large field. Be sure to bring your long lens, and a lawnchair if you prefer to sit while waiting. There is a large crowd for this event, and it is in the open sun, so you will need to be early for a front row seat.
You may want to bring a flash to use inside the buildings, but it would be difficult to carry a softbox and larger setup.
Lunch on your own (food truck at venue and restaurants within one mile). Bring your own snacks and water. There is a small gift shop in the visitors center and often a yard sale type of event there.
Group dinner afterwards at Hoss’s 5:15
Lodging near the turnpike entrance as well for those who want to stay over.
